ROD MAKER
A native to Victorian waters, rod maker Rob Morwood is a graduated master in split cane fly rod building, honing his craft to a commercial grade of sporting equipment for over 10 years.
Rob has developed his interests in spey rod fishing and now specialises in crafting tapers for 2 hand rods from 10 foot switch rods for smaller/medium rivers to 12 foot skagit/scandi 480grain + t8-11 sink tips.
Spey fishing is a return to the traditional wet fly that can be used for larger, faster water to shallow, slow and Scandi surface style presentation comparable to the diversity of most New Zealand waters. Combining these attributes with split cane, the subtleties of casting, retrieving and feel can not be matched by other materials.
13 Mile is inspired from a slice of land on the West Coast South Island of New Zealand, also known for its protected and breathtakingly beautiful rivers where family ties are strengthened and hopefully soon a workshop to complete the journey. For now, Rob is located in Lyttelton Christchurch, appointments are available via email; 13milenz@gmail.com
